In 1938, the history of Kim Gu-won Seonsaeng's tofu began with the first-generation master, Kim Ui-chang. In the post-liberation era when food was scarce, an accidental discovery of adding cornus fruit to tofu led to the creation of a unique and exquisite tofu unlike any other. The legacy of Kim Gu-won tofu has been faithfully carried on by the second-generation master Kim Gu-won, the third-generation master Kim Seong-ho, and now by their descendant, the current representative of Kim Gu-won Tofu, Kim Dong-yoon. The fourth-generation master Kim Dong-yoon was recognized for his tofu manufacturing skills, even being selected as a "New Knowledge Farmer" by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the first in Korea to achieve this honor. The dedication and effort that go into making this tofu, using honest ingredients such as cornus fruit, domestic soybeans, and eight medicinal herbs, continue to shine after 80 years.
